So you know that one number at the top of your profile that tells you how many people follow your social media account? Yeah. That’s really not as important as you think. Hear me out.
We so often define the success of our accounts by how many followers we have. Are all of those followers interacting with your posts? Are they sharing your content? Are they making purchases? Those are just a few things to think about when you see that number no matter how big or small it may be.
When measuring analytics of your account, yes we can absolutely measure followers, but there are so many other factors that actually matter. Here are three things to pay attention to instead of the number of followers you have:
Reach & Impressions
Reach – The total number of people who view your content.
Impressions – The total number of times your content was shown.
Both your reach and impressions have SO much value to help you understand how well your content is performing. They help to understand the exposure of your content by your followers vs. people who do not follow you.
Likes, shares & comments
Don’t you love it when you make a post and receive a ton of likes, comments, and even people sharing your content? Here at Beyond Boss, we LOVE when people interact and share our content. And so should you!
The people who are interacting with your posts are more important than how many followers you have. Period.
Conversations
Are people making conversations with you? If not, then this might be a sign to educate those followers about what you do or sell to get them more interested.
Having conversations with others can generate so much awareness and knowledge about what you sell or the services you provide which could potentially turn into more clients or sales. Who wouldn’t love that?!
Here at Beyond Boss, for every new follower we receive, we send them a message thanking them for the follow and a link to our free Facebook community. From there, more people have joined our community, more people have asked questions about what we do, and more people have been intrigued and joined our insiders membership!
If you are looking to spark more conversation on social media, sending that initial message has been an absolute game changer for us!
So to go back to the initial statement of this blog, the number of followers you have truly does not matter. Just because someone else has more followers than you does not mean they are better than you or they generate more sales. Building those connections, posting sharable content and measuring realistic analytics will allow you to feel pretty damn good about your account.
Every week, we send our Social Media Management clients a weekly update to give them a rundown of their analytics, not just follower count. Click HERE to learn more about how we can manage your social media account to get more money in YOUR pocket.
