Whether you are an entrepreneur, work 9-5, a student, or a stay-at-home mom, you can probably admit that you have felt overworked. And I can tell you that there is a fine line between working hard and working to the point where you want to give up. Or maybe you’re working so hard that you aren’t taking care of yourself or doing things you enjoy throughout the day.
When I was a full-time student, I often found myself with my laptop open working from the time I woke up until I went to bed. Why? Because I wanted everything to be perfect. I worked so hard to make everything perfect and would overthink every assignment.
Perfectionism and “grind culture” are so overrated. It’s time to work to feel good while also knowing when it’s time to call it quits for the day and relax.
Here are my top three ways to relax when I am feeling overworked.
Take a shower
That night time shower just hits differently. There is no better feeling than closing all of your tabs on your computer at the end of the day and hopping in the shower. I always make sure I have my phone in the bathroom blasting music that makes me feel happy while washing my body with Bath and Body Works stress relief body wash. Does it wash away my stress. No. But one can only wish, right?
Less screen time
The minute we aren’t working we immediately gravitate towards our phones. At least for me. We always “need” to check our texts and social media as soon as we get the chance to.
As a social media manager, this is something that has been extremely hard to get used to. After a day where my eyeballs are literally glued to a computer screen, there is nothing worse than immediately sitting on your phone. Go take that long shower and blast your favorite music. Your body (and your eyeballs) will thank you later.
Take a damn break
This seems so obvious, but it’s the damn truth. If your day allows it, take an hour away from the work you are doing and come back to it later. When I take breaks in the middle of work I love to either cook or simply just lay down and take a rest. Or sometimes I will drive to starbucks for a mid afternoon caffeine fix. Depending on what this may look like for you, always remember that rest and relaxation in the middle or after a busy work day is important.
If you take anything away from this blog post, remember that hard work comes with relaxation.
