Somedays look like this: wake up, pick up phone, see notifications, scroll social, read email from someone checking on progress or looking for something or a bill that is due, drink coffee, open laptop, get whined at my pets/kids/spouse/boss/client, cry, scroll social more. And before you know it, it is 8pm and you’re like “what happened?! Why am I not having more more positive and productive days?” I’ve been there…a lot…welcome, you’re in good company.
I am here to write this post in hopes that I will read it tomorrow and start my day off the way it should be started off:
- Wake up at the time your body needs, not at the time the productivity police tell you to wake up. Maybe tomorrow that is 6am, or maybe it is 8am. Do what your schedule and your body requires of you. SLEEP IS GOLDEN.
2. Drink 8-16oz of water before you even think about that first cup of anything else. Our bodies need water. Period.
3. Move your body and/or meditate. Whether you are into HIIT, a leisurely walk to grab some iced coffee at your favorite local spot, or meditating on gratitude or acceptance, do something your mind and body will thank you for. (I love the Peloton mediations)
4. Tackle your least exciting but most important tasks first. Don’t dive into emails first. Don’t start doing the thing you’re pumped about. Sure, some experts say completing something you’re excited about first will motivate you to complete the rest of your list, but if you’re anything like me you will expend all of your energy on your favorite task and procrastinate on the difficult stuff.
Most importantly, give yourself and other grace. Perfection is a damn myth, but positive and productive days are possible ✌️
