We polled our Instagram followers to see what their biggest struggles were in their businesses. I was not at all shocked to find out that most of the women that responded were grappling with low confidence, imposter syndrome, low productivity, and lack of proper planning. Look, we have all been there. Even the most organized, efficient, confident of us have our “what the hell am I even doing with my life?!” moments. Looking for the cure to imposter syndrome? Keep reading.
I am a firm believer that systems and task management are the key to demolishing the disorganization and procrastination that leads to decreased confidence.
Does this sound like BS? Hear me out.
You wake up on Monday and you are motivated to start your day. You hop out of bed and make a cup of coffee. And then you look around…and what the heck were you supposed to get done anyways. You grab your notebook and your planner, ready to tackle the day. Crap. The list you made on Friday was left in your car, and it is snowing. So you sit down at your computer, and you get to work. You answer your emails, send out some invoices, check in on Facebook. Now what. What was in the dang notebook?! WHAT WAS ON THE LIST.
Now it is lunch time. You trudge out to the car and grab the notebook. You missed half of the things you planned for the weekend. Your confidence is in the toilet. You had such big plans for the day. Oh well, I guess you can just scroll TikTok until 2:30 when you decide to answer more emails and then call it a day.
Now it is dinner time. You are emotionally exhausted from feeling like a complete failure, so you pop a frozen pizza in the oven. Yay sodium! Woohoo! Might as well chug a glass of wine with it because WHAT IS LIFE?!
Do you see where I am going with this? Failure to prepare properly is preparing to fail. When we set ourselves up for success, we are able to mentally bank each of those little wins, down to having the mental space to wipe the crumbs off of the counter after breakfast. We can choose to bank our “oops” and “crap, I forgot”, or we can bank the wins and the extra time that we save. The cure for imposter syndrome can be as “simple” as feeling in control over a situation.
Enter your favorite task management software. We use ClickUp to manage Beyond Boss, my photography business, business mentoring, and my families “stuff”. Each of these are organized into separate spaces so that I can organize my thoughts, tasks, and projects.
From there I can separate all of the different pieces of my businesses into their own lists. When I need to know what content to create, what partnerships to focus on, what to send to Heather, and what is a true action item, I have my ClickUp organized to make it happen. As I check items off of these lists, I feel empowered and ready to crush the next item. Each closed task is a win in my bank (sometimes literally!).
If you are struggling with imposter syndrome or lack of productivity, check out ClickUp.INSIDERS: there is a training in your portal to help you get it set up!
