I’ve been busy. The kind of mentally exhausting busy that has your brain shooting in 15 different directions at any given moment. Have I been taking care of my skin, my health, my wellbeing? Nope. Being a wedding vendor in the midst of a double wedding season, having multiple businesses, moving, and raising two little girls that are transitioning into a new home will do that to you. Self love isn’t at an all time high.
I’ve been so consumed by everyone else’s needs over the past couple of months that I’ll be honest, I have only even looked in the mirror to make sure I am not completely embarrassing before leaving the house.
That just isn’t me. Truly. As I am sitting here typing this I am shaking my head at myself. This morning I was driving to a shoot and thinking about how doing basically anything for me right now feels like just another task, and I just do not have enough hours in the day for another task.
This sounds pathetic, but bare with me.
After my shoot I headed over to Trader Joes, in search of something to cheer up my inner bad bitch. At Trader Joes you ask? Well yes. Where else can you such a wide array of random shit and the essentials?
So I walked in, and bought myself a new plant, some roses to arrange (a hobby I have missed so much since we moved and I left my little cutting garden), some room spray and apple cider donuts.
Sometimes self love looks like admitting you just need to make it through a season of chaos, and buying yourself something little to remind yourself that even if your hair is a little more ratchet than you would like, your eye bags are poppin, and you’re just plain exhausted, that you LOVE YOURSELF.
Self love does not have to look like magical vacations and spa days and yoga and mediation and alignment and a free schedule and all the Instagram graphics floating around. It can look like a trip to Trader Joes for some roses, and a pat on your own back that says “Hey, we can do this, and we will treat ourselves really well really soon!”
