I remember my best friend talking about TikTok and I ROLLED MY EYES SO HARD. She was kind of offended. “No seriously Cait, I think this is going to be the next big thing”. Never one to ignore the writing on the wall, I created an account. And it sat there…for a while. I had no idea how to grow a TikTok following, but I saw other accounts blowing up.

This is not a comprehensive guide, but I wanted to share a few tips to help you grow an active and engaged TikTok following. Why? Because it is currently the #1 way to monetize your social media efforts. Brands are looking to collaborate with creators in a big way, consumers are purchasing from businesses, and you should cash in and create an additional stream of income (that is FUN), while it is hot!

How To Grow A TikTok Following

Don’t be ashamed…just post.

You might be staring at the create screen on TikTok thinking “everyone is going to make fun of me…this is stupid”. Who. Cares. Honestly? If this is something that you are excited about, go for it. Trust me when I tell you that later people will be asking how you did it so that they can try it themselves.

Post often

Many creators that share informative posts about TikTok suggest posting 1-3 times per day when you are actively trying to grow a following.

My suggestion? Do this a few days a week. Batch your content for your man videos, and then sprinkle in some more simple videos that you can create the day of.

Maybe you try a series like “how I manage my dietary restrictions” or “deliver orders with me”.

Focus on your passions

Post about what you know and low. For me that is motherhood, career tips and general lifestyle. Guess how my account gained a bunch of followers? A viral video about my traumatic birth with my second born (TW). Just telling my story to the camera, and it caught wind and gained me my first 5k followers.

Use the latest trends

Take the time to poke around your For You page and save sounds that are trending, then apply them to YOUR niche (your niche being what you are passionate about).

Repurpose content that performed well on other platforms

Make notes of anything that performed well on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or your blog, and then use the latest trends to repurpose that information for TikToks.

Be your authentic self

TikTok is a great place to be YOU. You don’t need to pretend to be anyone else. The vibe is much less curated and professional than Instagram.

The bottom line? You CAN grow a following on TikTok, and have a TON of fun doing it.
