Nothing beats a delicious latte or cold brew from your favorite local coffee spot. But, if you frequent shops like Starbucks and Dunkin, I’m here to tell you – you’re wasting your money and time.
You can easily make a great cup of coffee, cold brew, or latte without leaving your house and for a fraction of the cost. Here are 3 easy and affordable ways to make coffee from home that tastes just as good, if not better than corporate coffee shops.
The Easiest Method
Don’t underestimate the power of the ole’ faithful Keurig machine. Keurig’s have become a lot more compact, affordable, and trendy over the years. A simple one like this will fit perfectly on your counter and cost you about $60. My personal favorite K-cup is The Original Donut Shop. You can grab a 72-pack on Amazon for around $30 – averaging to only $0.42 per cup! If you aren’t brave enough to drink it black (no judgment – extra cream over here please!), pick up a fun coffee creamer from your grocery store. I like to pair this K-cup with International Delight’s Cinnabon creamer. Top it off with some cinnamon sprinkle and you’re ready to take on the day!
The Easier Method
If you’re the type who drinks iced coffee in negative degree weather, this one is for you – Salted Caramel Cold Brew Cold Foam. First, grab a bottle of cold brew from your grocery store. Any brand will do. Try a couple to figure out which one is your favorite. Next, you need a bottle of Torani syrup (seriously, the best syrup that exists is Torani… take my word for it). You can find Torani in Walmart and on Amazon. For this drink, we’re using salted caramel. Another tip – they also have phenomenal sugar-free flavors. I would die for their sugar-free s’mores syrup, just saying. The next time you’re on Amazon, order the Zulay Handheld Milk Frother (around $20). Lastly, you need some half & half, or whatever you’re preferred creamer is (non-dairy milk and fat-free milk will also do the trick)! First, fill your cup with ice and cold brew and leave room at the top for your desired amount of creamer. In a separate glass or container (something plastic), you need a very small amount of creamer. For a 16 oz. cup of coffee, I recommend using 1 oz. of the syrup flavor of your choosing. Add this right to your coffee creamer. Last, take your handheld milk frother and quickly move it up and down in the creamer. In a matter of seconds, you’ll have delicious cold foam! Add this right on top of your cold brew and dang girl – you’re almost a professional barista at this point.
Easy Method
The last method is by using an inexpensive home espresso machine. While they’re obviously not as good as a commercial espresso machine, they can still make a pretty decent latte. My favorite home espresso machine is the Capresso 124.01 Ultima Pro Programmable Pump Espresso Machine. This will run you around $250. I’ve used mine frequently for over a year and it’s still going strong. Next, you’ll need a good bag of espresso. My favorite local shop by FAR is La Prima. And the best part, you can order espresso online and have it delivered! Next, you’ll need a basic milk frothing pitcher (you can find these on amazon – don’t spend more than $15). Lastly, my favorite thing to add to my home latte’s is Ghiradelli’s White Mocha Powder. You can also purchase this on amazon. Add 1 tablespoon to the milk before steaming and you’re in for a real treat.
